350.org is looking for a brilliant communications professional with the skills to develop, plan, and implement communication strategies for our regional campaigns in Francophone countries across Africa.

About the Africa Francophone Communications Coordinator
The Africa Francophone Communications Coordinator will be responsible for offering traditional communications support to regional Francophone campaigns in Africa. This includes developing communications materials, implementing strategic communications plans for specific campaigns and events, identifying media opportunities and engaging with issues relevant for 350.org’s work.
The Africa Francophone Communications Coordinator is someone with demonstrated experience in developing, planning, implementing effective communications plans and strategies campaigns to get results, while collaborating across departments and regions.
The role reports to the Africa Communications Manager and is part of the Africa Regional Team.
Responsibilities

Develop and Iimplement communications plans and strategies for Francophone campaigns that feed into regional plans

Develop traditional communications materials, including press releases, opinion pieces and media packs with the support of the comms manager and advise on the development of multimedia and social media materials when appropriate

Cultivate and maintain relationships with media practitioners, pitch stories, coordinate responses to media requests and growing existing media contact lists

Monitor media to identify digital and media opportunities to engage with issues relevant for 350.org’s work

Monitor, track, measure and document media and communications deliverables

Coordinate with photographers and videographers to produce high-quality multimedia for campaigns and actions

Support and encourage the media work of 350.org network, national campaigners, and local groups in the region and empower them through communications and media trainings

Collaborate across departments and regions to develop alignment between 350.org’s global, regional, and cross-regional communications.

Public Engagement: support and represent 350.org’s overall mission in the media and in public venues or other networks to strengthen climate change communications
Competencies
The right candidate will be a skilled and energetic communicator who is detail-oriented, creative and has strong interpersonal skills. This candidate must be a resilient and flexible team player who can handle a fast paced, high pressure, highly collaborative team culture.
Required Qualifications

Job knowledge: At least three (3) years of experience in communications, advocacy for regional campaigns or media

Fluency in English and French
-
Strong aptitude for communication, facilitation and training skills to help guide, inspire, consult and coordinate with remote and diverse teams

Communication: an excellent communicator with first class writing skills in French and English
-
Public engagement: Understanding of the regional media landscape, in particular key French language publications and outlets for environmental and climate change news

Ability to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion in day to day work: Professional experience in an international and/or multi-cultural environment and comfort working remotely with colleagues in multiple time-zones via skype, conference calls, and other online tools

Excellent teamwork, problem solving, program planning and management skills

Keen attention to detail, flexible and proactive mindset
Desired (but not required) Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience working in communications for a nongovernmental organization, nonprofit or campaign.

A people-person who can build relationships with the 350.org staff , partners and media practitioners

Network of existing contacts and ability to strengthen campaigning relationships with organisations and researchers advocating for climate solutions/ just transition to renewable energy

Experience developing and running communications trainings for groups of staff, local groups and volunteers

Able to travel internationally on occasion

Proficiency in Meltwater and Salesforce

Experience with Google Suite, Slack, and Zoom or similar systems
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working remotely, both independently & on teams, and who is highly responsive, able to lead initiatives while also taking direction from others.
